An arrangement of colors and sense

by Jill Garroway

Blackout poetry is like sculpting: You begin with a page of text and carefully remove the unnecessary words to reveal the poem within. It can be as simple as coloring over a page with a marker or, as in this book, it can be done using digital photography and art to complement and enhance the story.

Don’t be shy; wander around and explore. With themes ranging from relationships to mental health, feminism to activism, and a dose of general whimsy, you’ll find something that speaks to you. But what will it say? That’s for you to discover.

About Jill

In their day job, Jill is a graphic designer and sign shop graphic technician based in the USA. In their free time, they enjoy iPhone photography and creating mixed media & digital art. Though they’ve written various types of poetry throughout their life, they find blackout poetry especially satisfying, as it enables them to blend their disparate interests into one form. This is their first book.
